David Smith, CPA, is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Memorial Healthcare System.  He has held the position since January 2015.

Prior to that David served as Memorial Regional Hospital’s finance officer since 1998.  In his current role, he is responsible for an annual operating budget of $2.8 billion and oversees finances for Memorial’s six hospitals, nursing home and Memorial’s network of area primary care clinics and programs.

 

David is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

 

David was recognized by the South Florida Business Journal as the South Florida Non-profit “CFO of the Year” in 2020 for his commitment to fiscal integrity while strengthening Memorial’s market position. 

 

Mr. Smith volunteers with the Memorial HERO (Healthcare Employees Reaching Out) Program, which provides opportunities for employees to be part of the community through volunteer efforts.  David volunteered with the Waterway clean ups, Thanksgiving Food drives, Winter Holiday events, Back to School drives and many other south Broward community and neighborhood initiatives.  He previously served on the boards of his high school alma mater and on his local parish council.

 

David also volunteered to co-author the “Clueless on Las Olas” mystery stories for the Broward Education Foundation fundraiser events, which raised over $275,000 through his efforts.  

 

A native of Virginia, David grew up and has lived in Florida for more than 50 years.  He and his wife Nancy, along with their 4 children are no strangers to the arts and the art world, as they have season tickets to the Broadway Series and Slow Burn Regional Theater (both at Broward Center); they frequent the Art and Culture 

Center/Hollywood and have attended many of the Center’s fundraisers, including Cuisine for Art, Man of Style, Hot Hollywood Glam, Exposed, and more.
