Alette Simmons-Jimenez
Alette Simmons-Jiménez, born in Wisconsin, currently lives in Miami, Florida. Holding a BFA from Tulane University, she has continued experimenting and researching through workshops and residencies such as Creative Capital PDW, Cliniques D’Es Baluard Museum, Mallorca, Spain; Eco-Aesthetics workshop, Oolite Miami; Painting Theory intensive workshop, Enrique Martinez Celaya, Whale & Star/Studio; and Ifitry Résidence D’Artiste, Morocco. Simmons-Jiménez exhibits internationally and her latest solo show was held at the Museum of Arts & Sciences, Daytona Beach, FL from January TO May 2022. Other solo shows have been presented at Space S/223, Miami Design District; Oolite Arts, Miami Beach; Francis Wolfson Gallery, Miami-Dade College; Inter-American Development Bank Gallery, Washington, DC; Museo de Arte Moderno, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Miami-Dade Cultural Resource Gallery. Selected group shows include 21c Museum, Louisville, Kentucky; Art in Embassies Program, US State Department, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Frost Art Museum, Miami; Appleton Museum, Ocala, FL; Renaissance Center, Dickson, TN; Casa de Cultura, Valencia, Spain; Society of Four Arts, Palm Beach, FL; Mobile Museum, AL; Banana Factory, PA; and Gulf Coast Museum, Largo, FL. Simmons-Jiménez was recently awarded grants to attend the Artist Residency programs in Mallorca, Spain and Essaouira, Morocco. Other awards include a Knight Arts Grant, a Florida Arts Fellowship, and “1st Prize in Video” from XVIII Biennial of the Dominican Republic, where she's recognized as the first woman in the country to exhibit video installation art.
