In recognition of LGBTQ History Month, the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood is presenting screenings of its three LGBTQ-themed Open Dialogues films throughout October. The month starts on Oct. 1 with the first of 10 screenings of Stories From the LGBTQ Community on BECON-TV. It continues with the premiere of Gen QueerZ on National Coming Out Day (Oct. 11), and a festival screening of Queer Allies at OUTshine in Fort Lauderdale.
Here’s the schedule:
Premiere screening on Wed., Oct. 11 at the Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center, 1770 Monroe Street; 6-7 p.m. red-carpet reception followed at 7 p.m. by a screening and a discussion with cast members and Director Freddy Rodriguez. There is no charge for admission. Presented as part of National Coming Out Day.
Gen QueerZ gives voice to college and university students who are among the first generation to be “out” while attending school and living at home.
The Center is also partnering with Broward County Libraries for a free Gen QueerZ screening and discussion on the young, queer experience from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the South Regional/Broward College Library, 7300 Pines Blvd., Building 81, Pembroke Pines.
Queer Allies will be screened Oct. 23 as part of South Florida Shorts at the 15th Annual Fort Lauderdale Edition of the OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival. Screening begins at 7:15 p.m. at Paradigm Cinemas: Gateway Theater, 1820 E. Sunrise Blvd., in Fort Lauderdale. It will also be available Oct. 30-Nov. 5 as part of OUTshine’s virtual festival.
Queer Allies offers the stories and lived experiences of people who identify as LGBTQ+ (Queer) and the people who love and support them.
The Center’s first Open Dialogues film captures the diverse coming-out narratives of seven Broward residents who shared their stories in on-camera interviews. There will be 10 screenings in October on BECON-TV: Channel 63 on ATT U-verse, DirecTV, and Dish Network; and Channels 19 and 488 (HD) on Xfinity.
