Abstracted looks at the work of three multi-media artists: Francie Bishop Good, Karen Snouffer, and Sara Stites. These three artists all create vibrant paintings and sculptures to communicate open-ended ideas and themes while appreciating the physicality of artmaking. The exhibition presents each artist’s unique perspective while opening a collective conversation.

ABSTRACTED ESSAY

Uninhibited? Unfettered? Unrestricted?

Francie Bishop Good was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and lives and works in Fort Lauderdale. Bishop Good received her BFA from the University of Colorado and MA in Education from Florida Atlantic University. She is a two-time recipient of the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship and was selected for the State of Florida Individual Artist Fellowship. Museum solo shows include the Allentown Art Museum, Allentown; NSU Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville; and the Hilliard Museum, Lafayette. Francie Bishop Good is represented by Mindy Solomon Gallery, Miami.

Karen Snouffer has exhibited at the Art Center South Florida, Miami; The Work Space, New York; Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art; Evansville Art Museum, Indiana; La Médiathèque, Epernay, France; and Galerie Cardo, Reims, France. She is a former fellow of the Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown, and a past Artist in Residence at Headlands Center for the Arts, Sausalito. Snouffer received her BS in Education and MFA from The Ohio State University. She teaches painting, drawing, and multi-media classes at Kenyon College with a studio and residence in Gambier, Ohio.

Sara Stites is based in Miami and Maine. Stites has had solo exhibitions in Miami at Under the Bridge and Art at Work. Group exhibitions include Artists Draw Their Studios at Klynert Gallery, Woodstock, New York, 2020 Florida Biennial at the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood, and Temporality at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Rockland, Maine. Sara Stites and Francie Bishop Good were both recipients of the 2022 Florida Prize at the Orlando Museum of Art.
